2012 Kingston Canadian Open of Fishing Announced For July 19-21

The Competitive Sport Fishing League (CSFL) announced recently that the 2012 Kingston Canadian Open of Fishing will take place on July 19 through July 21, 2012, on Lake Ontario out of Kingston, Ontario.

The CSFL will host a three-day, no elimination Pro/Am combined team weight bass tournament, and the event will be in support of The Kingston Military Family Resource Centre (KMFRC), a registered non-profit, charitable organization that supports and enhances the health and well-being of the military community by assisting injured or ill Canadian Forces personnel.

The Pros will be competing for cash prizes exceeding $100,000, with this year’s winning Pro angler set to walk away with $40,000 in cash, and the top co-angler to receive a $15,000 Lund/Mercury Boat package. This year, amateur anglers will have a chance at an impressive list of prizes valued at well over $50,000.

Nominations Being Accepted – International Day of Persons with Disabilities Access Award

The city of Kingston, Ontario is now accepting nominations for the International Day of Persons with Disabilities Access Award. This award recognizes contributions that improve access (beyond legislated requirements) for persons with disabilities.

Any individual, team, company or organization living or working in Kingston or involved in a project which directly benefits the citizens of Kingston can be eligible. The projects must have been developed within the past three years, and both new or renovated buildings are eligible. In addition to building projects, contributions could include employment programs, transportation systems or recreational programs.

Nomination forms (which can be downloaded here) must be submitted to the Accessibility Office, Attention: International Day of Persons with Disabilities Access Award, City Hall, 216 Ontario Street, Kingston, Ontario, K7L 2Z3 no later than 4:00 p.m. on October 31.

In partnership with the Municipal Accessibility Advisory Committee (MAAC), the city of Kingston will present the awards in a ceremony on November 3, which also happens to be the officially recognised International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

Kingston To Host Under-13 Basketball Championship In 2012/2013

Ontario Basketball and Tourism Kingston announced yesterday, that Kingston will host the Ontario Cup under-13 provincial boys basketball championship in 2012 and 2013. The event will be held April 20 to 22 in 2012 and April 19 to 21 in 2013, and will feature 84 teams and more than 1,200 players each year. It will be hosted at several gyms, including at the Queen’s Centre, the Kingston Military Community Sports Centre and St. Lawrence College.
